My name is Ben Henning. I’m a Junior at DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, WA. I am majoring in a really long degree called: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation (whew, now that we got that out of the way…) I have been programming for roughly seven years. Programming has evolved from being a fun hobby to my aspiring career. I have finally made time to create this blog as a way to discuss some of my projects or ramble about new ideas I’m fascinated in.
Some of my areas of technological interest include:
- Game development
- Game engine architecture
- Low-level programming
- Graphics programming
- Network programming
- Concurrency programming
- Compilers
- Cross-platform development
- Build systems
- Server programming
- Web development (frontend and backend)
- Relational DBMS’s
- Applied mathematics to computer science (intentionally left open-ended)
I am a huge advocate of Open Source software. I believe that innovative technology should be owned by the masses, not by single individuals. This is part why I created this blog: to share my own ideas with the rest of the world. I don’t necessarily believe everything should be open source or free, but significant advances in technology should not hide behind patents or organizations intending to solely profit from such ventures.
I also have a passion for game development, hence my choice of institute for higher education (DigiPen is notoriously known for game development). I am currently working bits at a time on a large-scale MMORPG called Thornefall. I definitely encourage you take a look at Thornefall’s project page or its website; I am super thrilled about it.
